February 18, 2008 - Guy Carbonneau was born on March 18, 1960 in Sept-lles, Quebec, Canada. Prior to his coaching career, Carbonneau was a player in the NHL. Drafted during the 1980 NHL Draft, he went on to play for the Montreal Canadiens as a defensive forward. In 1986, he helped the team win the Stanely Cup. He also assisted in bringing home the Frank J. Selke Trophies in 1988, 1989 and 1992.
A year later, Carbonneau was named the captain of the Montreal Canadiens. In 1993, he again led the team to a Stanely Cup championship. The following year, he was traded to the St. Louis Blues in exchance for Jim Montgomery. After one season, he moved to the Dallas Stars. In 1999, Carbonneau earned his third Stanely Cup ring and finally retired as a hockey player following the 1999-2000 season.
As a hockey player, Carbonneau was considered one of the most popular players in the league. Fans were heard chanting "Guy, Guy, Guy" every time he touched the puck.
Currently, fans can see Carbonneau coach the Montreal Canadiens. In 2005, the Guy Carbonneau Trophy was created which recognizes the best defensive foward in teh Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
